The Lion’s Head full moon hike is a popular activity for both Capetonians and tourists. I’ve done it a few times, and it never fails to amaze. (For non-South Africans, Lion’s Head is one of the mountains on the side Table Mountain.) Starting at Signal Hill, the hike takes you around the mountain, allowing for a view over Kloof Nek, Camps Bay, Clifton Beach, Bantry Bay and Sea Point (with Robben Island in the distance), over Signal Hill, over the City Bowl and, of course, over Table Mountain. The views are astounding at any point on the hike. It’s a real treat to arrive at the top and watch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean and the moon rise over Devil’s Peak and the city sprawl.
